Review: ZAYN – I Don’t Wanna Live Forever (Fifty Shades Darker) ft. Taylor Swift

So, for the upcoming sequel to the erotic film Fifty Shades Of Grey they got former One Direction member, Zayn Malik, and pop princess Taylor Swift. Taylor Swift is famous for doing songs such as ‘Blank Space’ and ‘Shake It Off’ amongst others. She came to the public eye through country music. Zayn, however, released a solo album from having continuous success with One Direction, the Simon Cowell manufactured boy band, created and nurtured on the popular talent contest The X Factor, the equivalent of Pop Idol here in the UK. The band came third, but are now are arguably the most famous out of all of the contestants ever on the show.

Fifty Shades Darker is going to be released this coming February, as the sequel to the hugely popular book then film Fifty Shades Of Grey. The author planned it to be a Twilight based erotic fiction, but then created these characters and took the world by storm.

This track I find acceptable. I find it better than the last Fifty Shades lead single, which was ‘Love Me Like You Do’ by the extremely popular British singer-songwriter Ellie Goulding, where she did the greatest impression of Mariah Carey and sang through her nose. This has a beat, a catchy tune, proper singing, in tune singing and I’m certain that this will appeal to plenty of people who are fans of Zayn Malik or Taylor Swift. This is definitely Zayn’s song, he leads the vocals with bits and pieces of Taylor Swift.

You can tell that this has a Fifty Shades background as in the first verse it has a chain clunking soundbite, which is almost certainly a nod to the premise of Fifty Shades.

So overall, this track was surprisingly good for me, as I was hugely underwhelmed by Zayn’s debut solo album, Mind Of Mine, released earlier this year. I will not be making the trip to the cinema to see the Fifty Shades film in February, but that’s no reason why I can’t enjoy the singles. Good work Zayn and Taylor and everyone who worked on this track, you’ve won me over.
