ÆVES are an indie pop group from the USA. They have released their debut EP ‘Ignite’ recently and I talked to them earlier this week and here it is:

What’s the meaning behind your name?

Honestly, the meaning behind our name is “to fly” in Latin. Both of us took Latin in high school and felt it was very fitting for the band name. The slanted A is actually a Danish symbol we wanted to add to set us apart from other names.

What is the best gig you’ve ever played?

The best gig Matt has played was when he opened for Chance The Rapper about 4 years ago. That dude has 7 Grammy nominations this year, it helped put into perspective how much hard work an artist needs to do.

The best gig Molly ever played was probably this small show she did in Somerset, Kentucky. She felt what she was playing really connected with the audience and she had a chance to talk to a lot of new people there about the music and everything.

When will your debut LP be coming out?

We’re hoping to try and release an LP within a year or two. We’ve been planning on EPs until we can fully put together an idea and have a team to back us up.

Where do you see yourself in 5 years time?

In 5 years, we’re hoping to be maybe up for some awards and have a couple LPs under our belt. We’re really into reinventing ourselves as artist, it’ll be very cool to see what we’re doing in 5 years.

How long did it take to record Ignite?

Ignite was a weird process, we released Revolution as a single and staple for the band. It took altogether 8 days to record but on different weekends. The process building up to the release we wanted to collaborate with some artists we are into. All of the remixes turned out very unique in their own ways. Altogether we planned the release for about half a year.

Thank you to Molly and Matt from Æves! Check out the music here:
